What makes a Jedi the most powerful? Is it their ability to use the Force and wield a lightsaber with unmatched skill? Perhaps it’s their training, which is second-to-none. Or maybe they have an unlimited arsenal of force powers at their disposal. To determine who deserves this prestigious title, we will look at 10 of the most powerful and influential Jedi Knights from Star Wars history.
10 Most Powerful Jedi in Star Wars
The Jedi knights have been serving as the guardians of peace and justice for thousands of generations. There have been many to feel the force, but these are the ones that shined the most among them.
Ki-Adi Mundi is a powerful Jedi Master who served on the Galactic Republic’s High Council during both Naboo and Separatist uprisings.
Mundi was born into an old family from Cerea, which consisted of Force-sensitive members that had long been active in the Order as far back as its early days on Ossus. His family was killed in a barbaric attack by the Dark Jedi Lord Nyax, who then took Mundi as his apprentice and trained him in the ways of the dark side.
Ki-Adi learned from this training that he could use power more effectively with an even temperament, but he eventually rejected Nyax’s teachings when he realized that the Dark Jedi was more interested in power and conquest than anything else.
Mundi was one of few Jedi who survived Darth Sidious’s purge of the council. He would eventually sacrifice his life for Anakin Solo and be killed in a duel with Lord Naga Sadow on Yavin IV when he turned away from defending himself against an attack by a Massassi warrior.
Mundi was one of the strongest Jedi in Star Wars, but he became a little too old and slow for his own good during the Clone Wars. His death signaled an end to thousands of years of peace that had been enjoyed by not only all Republic citizens but also countless races throughout the galaxy.
9. Obi Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most celebrated Jedi Knights in history. He was trained by Qui-Gon Jinn and learned from his master’s teachings to use a lightsaber with unmatched skill, which he demonstrated when battling Darth Maul on Naboo.
Obi-Wan showed that he had vast knowledge of Force powers during the Clone Wars , as he was able to use defensive and offensive Force without any training. He always followed the Jedi Code, and became leader of the Jedi Council when Yoda retired from this role.
Obi-Wan had a good eye for potential recruits. He trained Anakin Skywalker and helped him realize his potential as a Jedi Knight. He was devastated and broken by the thought of losing Anakin. But all who fought for the Force, Obi Wan was one of the knights that shined the most.
8. Mace Windu
Mace Windu was the most powerful and influential Jedi from Star Wars history. In fact, his power in the Force is so great that he could use it to keep an entire army of droids at bay with nothing but a lightsaber. Additionally, his strength in combat made him one of the most fearsome adversaries for any Sith Lord or Dark Jedi.
He was also elected to the Jedi Council as its leader and appointed Grand Master of the Order, the tenure that lasted for over one thousand years, longer than any other member in history. His powers were such that he could use his lightsaber without needing to even look at it. He would be able to deflect blaster shots back at enemies with a single wave of his blade, reducing them to ashes.
Mace Windu’s most famous battle was in the Battle of Geonosis when he faced off against the Sith Lord Darth Sidious and two Dark Jedi masters, Count Dooku and Asajj Ventress. While outnumbered three-to-one, Mace not only survived but managed to defeat Dooku.
7. Ashoka Tano
Ashoka Tano was a Padawan during the Clone Wars and fought in many battles. She was one of the most powerful Jedi Knight and skilled with a lightsaber.
Ashoka was well proficient at using Force powers such as telekinesis to move objects around or deflect blaster bolts back towards her enemies. As one of Anakin Skywalker’s most promising young Jedi apprentices, she was chosen to lead a battalion of clone troopers in battle.
Ashoka Tano had her arm cut off by Asajj Ventress, but she learned how to construct and use lightsabers with one hand to make up for the loss. She eventually turned away from the Jedi ways after Order 66 and hunted down all who were still loyal to the Jedi.
She was killed by her own clone trooper, who she had thought of as a brother but he betrayed her in order for Anakin Skywalker’s children to be born and overthrow Emperor Palpatine. She disappeared before Darth Vader could kill both her and Padmé Amidala.
6. Qui-Gon Jinn
Qui-Gon Jinn is most people’s favorite Jedi from the prequel trilogy. As a young man, he discovered his connection to the Force and what would later become the basis of all Jedi powers.
Qui-Gon was trained by Count Dooku (aka Darth Tyranus), one of only two Sith Lords that survived the Jedi purge. He was a master of the Force and lightsaber combat, able to defeat powerful opponents like Darth Maul in single combat.
Qui-Gon is most remembered for his skills as a diplomat rather than with a lightsaber (except when he’s fighting Liam Neeson). But his control over the Force is somewhat comparable with Master Yoda himself. He might not be a front-line fighter but he certainly one of the strongest Jedi that Star Wars has ever seen.
5. Anakin Skywalker
Anakin Skywalker was trained by Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Yoda. He is considered one of the most powerful Jedi Knights in Star Wars history. He had a huge arsenal of Force powers at his disposal, including telekinesis which makes him unbeatable in combat.
The reason Anakin is so strong with The Force is that he was born to two people who were both force-sensitive themselves. His mother, Shmi Skywalker née Larsa, was also a Jedi in her own right before she became enslaved by Sand People.
Anakin had an instinctive grasp on all the different Force abilities that his mother knew. When Anakin was nine years old, Obi-Wan said “he is too powerful for me.” Which is some appreciation from a master that hadn’t had the chance to train him yet. If Anakin hadn’t turned dark, there’s no doubt that he would have been the strongest Jedi in the Old Republic.
Revan was a powerful Jedi Knight and also the most powerful Force user in history. It is said that he could destroy an entire planet with only his thought. But we never got to see him unleash such power because of one mistake: a choice made during the Mandalorian Wars.
Either way, Revan would have proven himself as one of the strongest Jedi Knights in the history of Star Wars. He is remembered as a hero and savior, but he also became twisted by his pursuit of power and was eventually redeemed back to the light side after being taken prisoner for years.
One of the most powerful Jedi in the new Star Wars trilogy is Rey. She has been trained by Luke Skywalker and was able to defeat Kylo Ren with minimal training using her skills as a force-sensitive orphan who grew up in Jakku. Her journey led her to discover herself and all of the powers within her, which is a reflection of the strongest Jedi ever.
Rey was also able to use various force powers with ease including mind tricks and she has been referred to as “unstoppable”. Rey’s journey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens mirrored Luke Skywalker’s own journey when he first met Obi-Wan Kenobi on Tatooine.
Rey also has the ability to manipulate and control animals which is one of the most powerful force abilities in Star Wars. Her training with Luke Skywalker made her a formidable Jedi Force user in The Last Jedi and she will be able to use various techniques including telekinesis, mind tricks, animal manipulation, as well as a vicious fighter with a lightsaber.
2. Luke Skywalker
Luke Skywalker, of course. Luke was the most powerful Jedi in the franchise and arguably one of the strongest in all Star Wars history. He inherited his father’s lightsaber after he perished at Cloud City on Bespin. When Darth Vader struck him down with a blow to his back that severed both Anakin’s hands as well as cut off his right hand, Luke miraculously survived.
Luke’s most powerful moment is when he turns off the Emperor’s control of his father and begs him to help kill Palpatine. After a brief duel, Luke succeeded in defeating the Emperor and saving his father from certain death.
Trained by Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Master Qui-Gon Jinn; Luke was one the most brilliant students that the Jedi Order had ever seen. He also trained Rey, who turned out to be one of the strongest Jedi Knights herself.
Luke Skywalker has a legacy that is very important to the Jedi Order. He was one of few surviving members and knew how much power he had as well as what it meant for his father’s lightsaber in “The Empire Strikes Back”. This would be most evident in Luke confronting Darth Vader when he feels like quitting, proclaiming “I am a Jedi like my father before me.”
1. Master Yoda
Yoda was one of the most powerful Jedi to have ever lived. He trained many students, including Count Dooku and Luke Skywalker. He fought in the Clone Wars against General Grievous and his droid armies alongside Obi-Wan Kenobi, which led him to become a general for the Galactic Republic and later Grand Master of the Jedi Order.
Yoda is considered one of the strongest Jedi and has many abilities to help him in battle. He is able to throw his lightsaber with great accuracy and force at targets. Yoda can also block blaster fire using The Force by either deflecting or absorbing the bolts into nearby objects like a tree.
Yoda’s most famous ability is his mastery of the Force. He can lift objects with a flick of his hand, and he made Luke Skywalker run across a tree branch by just using The Force to push him. Yoda was also able to use telekinesis on Darth Sidious who was trying to get up off the ground. Yoda lifted him off the ground and threw him into a tree with his mind.
Yoda is also one of the most famous Jedi in Star Wars. He was so wise and skilled, but also small enough to get around without being noticed by anyone. This helped him be successful on missions when he needed to sneak away from enemies. He was and will be the best Jedi that the force has ever recognized.
Star Wars has been one of the best memories for every ’80s-’90s generation. And the Jedi Knights made that memory even more remarkable. So, which one of these Jedi Knights is your favorite? Who do you think is the most powerful Jedi ever? Let’s hear your thoughts.
